Elks Lodge 0848 - Update 2
We’re chugging along this project and every time we’re here we have so much fun.
We’ve moved on to the IP side of things. We deployed 8 additional IP cameras on the perimeter of the Elks Lodge building. This is the REAL FUN stuff our jobs enable us to do. This is where we take a good hard look at the building. The Elks Lodge in Mount Holly is constructed entirely of brick and mortar and you can tell some of it is original and some has been repaired over the years. Its so cool really looking at this place under a microscope and putting the pieces together.
One of the tricks of the trade is seeing where other people have already worked. AC condensate lines, Coaxial or Fiber Optic service lines. Sometimes its electrical boxes mounted outdoor with MC cable inside. Other times its old window frames that have been boarded up or filled in. Finding these reference points is vital to knowing where you can or can’t drill. You have to drill a rather large hole to make sure your conduit body has enough room to sit so getting this right the first time is important. I’m sure you’ve heard of measure twice cut once. At NJS we say - measure 50 times, drill once. Especially when we’re working with a historic building. We want to preserve this structure the best we can.
We ended up only having to make a couple of holes and got creative with our UV resistant PVC conduit. We were able to do some clean work I think the owners of the building will appreciate. We color matched the cable in the basement as well to leave the smallest footprint possible. We’re giving away a 100 dollar amazon gift card to the first person who can spot any cabling in the basement …Just kidding but you get the idea.
We spent a good amount of time mapping out the network to make sure it could handle the cameras we were going to deploy. There’s nothing sweeter to seeing it come together. Every camera we mounted and connected to the network populated right away. Its a sweet feeling watching it all come together.
Here’s some additional photos of the job. We have a couple more phases to complete before this project comes to an end so stay tuned for more!
